Kurt Busch to drive No. 78 Furniture Row Chevy Next Season
From: Furniture Row Racing
Furniture Row Racing announced today that Kurt Busch has been hired to drive the team’s No. 78 Chevrolet during the 2013 Sprint Cup season.
Busch, a former NASCAR Cup champion, will replace Regan Smith, who joined Furniture Row Racing at the beginning of the 2009 season.
“Though we have made strides as a resourceful single-car Sprint Cup team, we are not where we want to be, which led us to the difficult decision of making a driver change as we move forward,” said Furniture Row Racing's general manager Joe Garone. “Kurt’s exceptional driving talent has the capacity to take a team to another level. We look forward to having Kurt join our Denver-based organization and feel his racing experience will play an important role as we plan ahead to 2013.”
Garone added, “As our team driver the past four years, Regan has represented Furniture Row Racing with both class and competitiveness. His win at Darlington in 2011 – the first for Furniture Row Racing – will be a memory forever etched in our organization’s history. He is a friend, and will always be a friend of Furniture Row Racing. We wish him all the best.”
Busch, a 34 year-old native of Las Vegas, has been a full time driver in the Sprint Cup Series since 2001. He has 427 Cup starts and has scored 24 wins, 89 top-fives, 171 top-10s and 15 poles. He has qualified for the Chase six times in the past nine years and won the 2004 inaugural Chase season championship in only his third full season in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series.
“Furniture Row Racing has the commitment, talent and resources to compete at a high level in the Sprint Cup Series,” said Busch. "I have watched with admiration on how this team has grown over the years and that is why I am excited about the opportunity as I eagerly look forward to a new chapter in my racing career."
Since the beginning of the 2012 season, Busch has driven the No. 51 Chevrolet for Phoenix Racing. His previous two teams in the Sprint Cup Series were at Penske Racing and Roush Fenway Racing.

Austin Dillon win's Nationwide race at Kentucky
The rookie of No. 3 car Austin Dillon takes him and he's crew to Victory
Lane for second time this year.
Dillon, the pole winner, went on to his second victory of the season and a
sweep at the 1.5-mile oval. He led four times for 65 laps. In June he
dominated, leading 192 of 200 laps.
Austin started on pole for Saturday's race, always
in contention, the rookie positioned himself to pass Sadler when his teammate's Chevy fell off the pace with steering issues with
50 laps left.
"It wasn't a gift by (any) means," Dillon said
after leading the final 50 laps to complete a season sweep at the 1.5-mile
oval. "We had a great car in practice, we adjusted on it (Friday), and
today and it got really good. We're in victory lane and proud to represent the
speedway with the sweep."
Dillon, who dominated the June
race by leading 192 of 200 laps, led four times for 65 laps this time
in the iconic No. 3 Chevy owned by grandfather Richard Childress.
Stenhouse's pit-road accident initially benefited Sadler. Leading the race as he pitted during a competition caution, the defending series champion collided with McClure exiting his stall.

James Buescher win at Kentucky and makes it two for two
That 22-year-old Buescher and #31 Fraternal Order of Eagles Chevrolet team takes truck to Vcitory Lane and celebrates to make it 2-for-2 for 2012 at Kentucky Speedway by stretching fuel window on lap 53 to capture in Friday night. He always win at 1.5-mile track back in June 28, captured his fourth overall win of both the season and his NCWTS career.
James Buscher dominating performance like the last time he had lead (led 119 of 150 laps), he think they led most laps and dominated anways on friday night (64 of the race's 134 circuits around the track). Next stop for him mand he's team is another mile-and-a-half (next week at Las Vegas).
James and Turner Motorsports crew chief Michael Shelton, taking a bigger gamble on saved enough fuel in their Chevrolet Silverado that night, than most gamblers might do at some of the nearby casinos along the Ohio River by not pitting for fuel in the final 53 laps and they took checkered flag.
“We should have been at least two (laps) to the good,” Shelton said. “James saved fuel for us every way he could, but we were definitely close. It would have been real interesting if it had been a green-white-checker there and where everybody would have been, but fortunately it played out for us.”
Buescher, who admitted that he wasn't feeling 100 percent in the race, having battled the flu bug for the last three days, came in on Lap 81 for just two right-side tires and fuel to gain an advantage coming out of the pits
With only 27 laps to go, Shelton elected to keep Buescher out on the track for maintain position, as did his four closest challengers pole-sitter Joey Coulter, Rookie Ty Dillon, Parker Kligerman and Matt Crafton, setting up the fuel mileage outcome. None of leader when in for Fuel or tires.
“I think we were two laps to the good, so maybe two more laps (left),” Dillon said. “We were chancing it there… . I'm a little bummed about finishing third just because James won, but we've got some speed and some great momentum.”

Country music artists Lonestar to perform free concert for fans on Sunday, Sept. 30 in Victory Plaza, presented by AAA
Multi-platinum country music quartet Lonestar will give a free concert for race fans on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 11:30 a.m. in Victory Plaza, presented by AAA. The band will then head inside the track where they’ll perform the National Anthem prior to the “AAA 400” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race.
Best known for its 1999 smash-hit single, “Amazed,” Lonestar has enjoyed two decades of success that include 10 No. 1 country hit songs, including the aforementioned “Amazed,” as well as 2001’s “I’m Already There” and 2004’s “Mr. Mom.” The group’s unique blend of strong melodies and rich vocals has helped it amass RIAA certified sales in excess of 10 million album units since 1995.
After forming in Nashville in 1992, Lonestar skyrocketed up the charts and into stardom with “Amazed,” which reached No. 1 on the country music charts as well as the Billboard Hot 100. The song also won the 1999 ACM Single of the Year and Song of the Year awards, and the 2001 CMA Vocal Group of the Year award.
Lonestar is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year by releasing a new album titled “Life As We Know It” supported by the current single “The Countdown” now at radio. The original lineup includes lead singer and piano player Richie McDonald, Michael Britt (lead guitar, backing vocals), Keech Rainwater (drums) and Dean Sams (keyboards/backing vocals).

Anthem singers announced for Sept. 28 and 29 races
Along with the Lonestar announcement, Dover International Speedway has announced that singer/songwriter Gina Zavalis will sing the National Anthem prior to the Saturday, Sept. 29 “OneMain Financial 200″ NASCAR Nationwide Series race. Griffin Dunn, a 13-year-old singer songwriter, will perform the song for the Friday, Sept. 28 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race.
Zavalis, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., is a classically trained vocalist with a BA and concentration in Musical Theater from Fordham University at Lincoln Center in New York City. In addition to her accomplished singing ability, she is also an exceptional actress and was an original cast member on the national tour of “Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding.” Her EP “Gina Zavalis” has earned rave reviews and she’s currently working on a follow up to that.
To learn more about Gina Zavalis, visit www.GinaZavalis.com
At only 13 years old, Griffin Dunn has been performing since he was only five years old. He’s had the opportunity to perform at many different venues, including fundraisers for the American Heart Association and American Cancer Society. Last year, he was invited to serenade Lil Wayne’s daugter, Reginae, at her birthday party. He’s also opened for past American Idol winner Kris Allen, who has also performed the National Anthem at the Monster Mile.
Dunn has recorded several original songs and has many videos on YouTube, which you can see by clicking here.
NASCAR returns to the Monster Mile on Sept. 28-30, 2012 with the Sept. 30 “AAA 400” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, the Sept. 29 “OneMain Financial 200” NASCAR Nationwide Series race and the Sept. 28 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race.

Chicagoland Speedway to host ’13 Chase Opener
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will open the Chase for the Sprint Cup once again at the Chicagoland Speedway for the third consecutive year in 2013.
Steve O'Donnell, NASCAR's senior vice president of race operations, said before Sunday's 400-mile event around the 1.5-mile speedway.
NH Driver-Crew Chief to Get Close with Fans
Mike Olsen is so excited to team up with his longtime friend Frank Stoddard, he wants to tell NASCAR fans at New Hampshire Motor Speedway all about it. Olsen and Stoddard will become the first New Hampshire-born driver/crew chief tandem in a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at “The Magic Mile” on Sept. 23, but first the two will take part in a special question and answer session with fans on the frontstretch – just minutes in the before the SYLVANIA 300, the second race in the Chase for the championship.
The Q & A is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. Questions for the duo will be fielded ahead of time by speedway officials. Time is subject to change.

Brad Keselowski wins first chase race in Chicagoland Speedway
Today's winner of the first opening race of the Chase for the Sprint Cup at Chicagoland Speedway on Sunday is Brad Keselowski. He overduled five-time champion Jimmie Johnson at end of race, Johnson finished 3.171 seconds behind.
Keselowski got ahead of Johnson after crucial pit cycle with about 35 laps remaining, and led the final 26 laps in the 400-mile race, holding comfortably first victory in a Chase race. He also has points lead heading in to New Hampshire this weekend.
All 12 of the Chase drivers finished in the top 18, with the exception of Jeff Gordon, who went into the wall with about 80 laps remaining.
This was Keselowski's fourth victory of the season. The Michigan driver leads Johnson by three points and gave Penske Racing a reason to feel good after Will Power's failed win IndyCar championship Saturday night in California.
The 28-year-old Keselowski is off to a great start in Chase for the Sprint Cup, after an impressive outlasted Johnson for the first Chase win of his career.
"There's no better place to start than in the lead, right?" Keselowski said. "It feels like Round One of a heavyweight title bout. It's a 10-round bout, and Week One's done. We might have won the round, but didn't by any means knock `em out." "It's a great day for us," owner Roger Penske said. "It cools me down a little bit after being hot last night."
Jeff Gordon was "Disappointing," He started in 19th position before he hit wall hard. They had fight hard to come from 19th up there in the top five.
Remember last year when Tony Stewart won at Chicagoland Speedway he when on to win Championship well that might just happen to Brad Keselowski but we'll have see, were only one down and nine more races to go. Its any one of twelve chase contenders championship to win.
Were off to 2nd round of Chase for the Sprint Cup in New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Sunday at 1pm et. Be sure watch and see what happens in 2nd round of these guys fighting for Championship.

The Champion in 2012 well be...
So what does it take to win a championship under the Chase format? Consistency, for one. Definitely perseverance, combined with a bit of luck. And it doesn't hurt if you can win races along the way.
When trying to compare Chases -- and come up with a subjective list of the five best performances -- it's impossible to rely on one specific statistic, because there isn't a definitive common thread.
And then there are the "near-miss" drivers, who strung together finishes that should have been good enough to win the title most years, only to have been beaten by someone who put together an exceptional run over the same 10 races.
Everyone is hoping for new face this year to win Championship.
As i see everyone is starting to pick there driver who they think well win this years championship and seat at head table in Las Vega in couple weeks or more. There are 12 good drivers that are in Chase this year Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Kasey Kahne, Dale Jr & and other more.
Well all know what name comes mine to me who well win Championship in 2012 and that is Tony Stewart to win hes fourth Championship this year, yeah i know i can't hide this from you guys y'all know I'm "Smoke Fan all way"! He has been running good lately at track, he has three wins under hes belt so far. Last year he won five of ten Chase race to Carl Edwards 0 race.
Here Tony Stewart: In Depth Stats before Chase on Sunday:
- Track Type Races Wins Top 5 Top 10 Average Start Average Finish
- Road Course 28 7 12 19 8.7 9.4
- Intermediate Track 310 26 111 181 15.8 12.2
- Short Track 83 7 26 42 15.4 13.7
- Superspeedway 69 7 23 36 14.7 14.3
Tony Stewart has won five of ten races last year, drivers have been asked how many races people can win to win chase they said three or four race.Next 10 race should be interesting on how things go and how points well be at when of Homestead in Nov.
We well see if I'm right at end of this season. May best driver win championship in Nov.

Looking Ahead to Chicagoland
This weekend the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads to the Chicagoland Speedway for the first of ten races in the Chase for the Sprint Cup, the NASCAR Nationwide Series will also tag along with the Cup series this weekend in Illinois.
Chicagoland Speedway is $130 million, 1.5-mile, D-shaped, tri-oval located in Joliet, Illinois. The speedway has hosted one race each of the last 11 seasons dating back to the inaugural 2001 season.
Kevin Harvick went to victory lane the first two seasons the Cup series graced the speedway. Tony Stewart's three wins at the speedway is the most among active drivers; Stewart is the defending winner of the event.
This is where Tony Stewart began his unexpected amazing roll to his 3rd championship in his career, just weeks after saying this statement after a race at the Michigan International Raceway “I will be perfectly honest." You have to love this honesty "we’re wasting one of those top-12 spots right now.”
Tony Stewart came into this weekend a year ago without a win -- and most if not everybody was writing his championship chances off. Stewart went on to win five races in the chase and shocked the NASCAR world, and probably himself as he hoisted the championship trophy over his head at Homestead with his title-winning crew chief, who had been told a month prior to the final race in Homestead that he would not be returning to Stewart Haas Racing in 2012, celebrated awkwardly on stage next to him.
Darian Grubb will begin his traipse to back-to-back championships as a crew chief this weekend in Chicagoland with a driver who earned the No. 1 seed in the Chase, Denny Hamlin.
Last year marked the first time that the Chicagoland Speedway hosted a Chase for the Sprint Cup race; the Chicago race used to be scheduled right smack-dab in the middle of the summer stretch of the schedule.
All the action will kick off on Friday with two practices for both the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and the NASCAR Nationwide Series, qualifying for both series' will be held on Saturday along with a NASCAR Nationwide Series race later in the afternoon, and the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series caps off the weekend on Sunday with a 400-mile race around the 1.5-mile D-shaped oval.
The weather this weekend in Joliet, Illinois is looking iffy on Friday and Saturday as there is chance of rain up to 50 percent, Sunday is looking clear and humid.
RCR penalties upheld
The National Stock Car Racing Appeals Panel upheld penalties against the No. 27 Richard Childress Racing Team on Monday.
The penalties stemmed from a post-race inspection at the NASCAR R&D center on Aug. 21 following the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at Michigan International Raceway.
Paul Menard drove the car to a ninth-place finish Aug. 19 in Michigan, but it was found with illegally altered frame rails two days later.
Crew chief Richard Labbe and Car Chief Craig Smokestad six-week suspension from NASCAR will be effective immediately.
RPM makes major swap
Richard Petty Motorsports announced Monday that they made major changes to its crew lineup, including their crew chiefs.
Mike Ford will now lead Marcos Ambrose and the No. 9 Ford while Todd Parrott has been swapped over to be the crew chief for Aric Almirola and the No. 43 Ford. Crew members will also make the switch to the other team in the organization.
The move was effective immediately, crew members, and crew chiefs will join their new respective teams this weekend at the Chicagoland Speedway.
Marcos Ambrose gave RPM their only victory of the season a couple of weeks back at the Watkins Glen road course.

Logano Headed to Penske Racing 2013
According the The Charlotte Observer, Joey Logano is expected to join Penske racing to take over the No. 22 ride and be a teammate of Brad Keselowski in the Cup Series next season.
With Matt Kenseth being announced on Tuesday to drive the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing machine for the 2013 season, it left Logano without a ride in the cup series for next season until now.
Joe Gibbs Racing was hoping to keep Logano has a driver of a fourth team if they could locate sponsorship or have him race in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.
Sam Hornish Jr. had been filling in for the suspended A.J. Allmendinger in the No. 22 for Penske Racing -- battling for a chance to drive the No. 22 full-time next season -- but it looks as his results or lack there of results in the recent weeks were not enough to warrant a cup deal.
An announcement could come as early as Tuesday.
Kyle Busch Holds The Final Wild-Card Spot Heading into Richmond
With a solid 6th place finish after leading 66 laps in the first half of the 325-lap race Sunday night, Kyle Busch is one more solid race away from locking himself into the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
Kyle Busch exits the Atlanta Motor Speedway weekend holding onto the final wild-card spot for the Chase by 12-points over 13th place Jeff Gordon, who came ever-so-close to basically locking himself into the chase.
Jeff Gordon had a win in his sights but couldn't pull off a final turn pass on Denny Hamlin in a tense green-white-checkered finish.
Coming into this past weekend the race for the final wild-card spot was full of a gigantic gaggle of drivers, Carl Edwards was one of those drivers involved in the gaggle, but has been basically erased from any chance of making the chase for the cup as his motor in the No. 99 Roush Fenway Racing machine faltered late into Sunday night's race.
Edwards has now gone winless since March of last season and for him to make the chase he must win next Saturday in Richmond, and have Kyle Busch along with Jeff Gordon finish very poorly.
Edwards has a next to nothing chance of making the chase.
Ryan Newman also had his chase chances damaged late Sunday evening, he was caught up in a wreck involving Jimmie Johnson and Sam Hornish Jr. with under 5o laps remaining making it a must win weekend next week in Richmond for Newman to make the chase.
Kyle Busch, Jeff Gordon, Marcos Ambrose and Joey Logano all have the best chance of attaining the final wild-card for the Chase for the Sprint Cup.... well Kyle Busch and Jeff Gordon do
Office Depot Parting Ways with Tony Stewart; Capping Off Bad Day in Atlanta
It was announced Sunday afternoon that Office Depot would be parting ways with Tony Stewart and his Stewart Haas Racing team at the conclusion of the 2012 season.
Tony Stewart will once again be handed the burden of finding another co-primary sponsor for his No. 14 chevy for the 2013 season.
Mobil 1 is set to return as a primary backer for about half of the races in the 2013 season for Stewart, the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion will have to find a sponsor to fork out the bucks for the rest of those races.
Tony Stewart is also searching for a sponsor on Ryan Newman's No. 39 machine, The U.S. Army announced they were parting ways with Newman earlier in the year.
If those matters weren't bad enough Sunday, Stewart again had a frustrating day after starting on the pole at Atlanta.
He quickly went the wrong direction in the early stages of the 500-mile race at the Atlanta Motor Speedway Sunday night and wound up finishing a disappointing 22nd, one-lap down.
This recent skid for Stewart has seen him fall to tenth in the points standings, Stewart will however make it into the Chase for the Sprint Cup at the very worst via a wild-card spot.
If Stewart falls out of the top-ten and is forced to use one of the wild-card spots he will have to forfeit all of the bonus points that are associated with those three wins.
Elliott Sadler will not be with RCR next season
Elliott Sadler, who is racing for a championship in the No. 2 RCR NASCAR Nationwide Car, will not be with Richard Childress Racing next season according to the owner.
"I think he's gone somewhere else...we're disappointed, you know, he's had his best season" said owner Richard Childress on Sirius NASCAR radio Saturday afternoon.
Sadler has been rumored to join Joe Gibbs Racing and be apart of their Nationwide team next season but nothing has been confirmed.
Sadler currently has a 12-point advantage over second place Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in the NASCAR Nationwide Series points standings with nine races left in the 2012 season.
