Matt Kenseth Penalized After Kansas Win

Matt Kenseth’s and his race team got hit with a very big penalty from NASCAR on Wednesday afternoon, when they checked over his car like every other car for post race inspection.

  • Kenseth was docked 50 points, and lost the three Chase bonus points he would have received for winning last weekend’s event at Kansas Speedway
  • Mean while his crew chief Jason Ratcliff has been fined $200,000, suspended for the next six Sprint cup events, including the non-points Sprint All-Star Race.
  • Car owner Joe Gibbs was docked 50 owners’ points and had his license suspended for six races, they will not receive owners’ points.
  • Kenseth’s pole at Kansas will not be allowed for eligibility into the 2014 Sprint Unlimited at Daytona, and in a rare step Toyota was docked five points in the manufacturer standings.

Seen Kenseth got penalty he loss of 50 points would drop him to 14th place in the points.

JGR said it would appeal the penalty.

“It is our understanding that one of the eight connecting rods on the engine was ruled too light,” the statement said. “We are working with our partners at TRD on this issue.”

Lee White, president of TRD, said the connecting road was three grams underweight and JGR had nothing to do with mistake.
