Kevin Harvick celebrates his win at Richmond

With a late caution sets up restart for  Ol' Happy Harvick at Richmond, he was the only driver with smile on his face after that race was done.

Kevin Harvick plowed through the traffic on the final restart like it was snow, driving from seventh to Victory Lane with just two-lap overtime.

''Just shifted gears, hit the pedal and hoped for the best,'' Harvick said. ''They all went high and I went low. The seas kind of parted there. They didn't get a very good restart, and my car launched.

''I was able to take it three-wide, those guys all drove it in hard, and I was able to get by the next two. I only had one to go by the time I got to the backstretch.''

Montoya was holding off Harvck until that last caution. He wasn't looking for caution that late in the race.

''I was like, `Really? Really?''' Montoya said about the caution. He pounded his fist on the steering wheel when the yellow flag waved.

Tony Stewart restarted in fifth, but was bumped out of the grove by Kurt Busch and faded all the way back to 18th. Stewart angrily traded bumps with Busch on the cool-down lap, even trying to force him into the wall, before the two drivers headed to the garage. Once back at their haulers Stewart and Busch shouted at each other over crew members, with Busch claiming the final two laps ''were a free-for-all.''

Matt Kenseth Penalized After Kansas Win

Matt Kenseth’s and his race team got hit with a very big penalty from NASCAR on Wednesday afternoon, when they checked over his car like every other car for post race inspection.

  • Kenseth was docked 50 points, and lost the three Chase bonus points he would have received for winning last weekend’s event at Kansas Speedway
  • Mean while his crew chief Jason Ratcliff has been fined $200,000, suspended for the next six Sprint cup events, including the non-points Sprint All-Star Race.
  • Car owner Joe Gibbs was docked 50 owners’ points and had his license suspended for six races, they will not receive owners’ points.
  • Kenseth’s pole at Kansas will not be allowed for eligibility into the 2014 Sprint Unlimited at Daytona, and in a rare step Toyota was docked five points in the manufacturer standings.

Seen Kenseth got penalty he loss of 50 points would drop him to 14th place in the points.

JGR said it would appeal the penalty.

“It is our understanding that one of the eight connecting rods on the engine was ruled too light,” the statement said. “We are working with our partners at TRD on this issue.”

Lee White, president of TRD, said the connecting road was three grams underweight and JGR had nothing to do with mistake.

Duke, a former Miss Sprint Cup and current model, will be present during the race weekend and other track events throughout the year proudly wearing a black fire suit and representing Darlington Raceway. Her local ties are in the state of South Carolina as she hails from nearby Lancaster, S.C. and is a graduate of Clemson University.

“I am honored to be “The Lady in Black” for Darlington Raceway. This is one of the most exciting opportunities I have ever had and definitely is the closest to my heart. I love Darlington Raceway,” Duke said. “I grew up going to races there with my Dad and we always pass the track on the way to the beach. There is just something special about this track. It just reminds me of the good ole’ days…real, exciting racing!

“There is so much history there and such a connection with many South Carolinians from Hall of fame drivers, to a Miss Sprint Cup, to the fans! My distant cousin is Harold Brasington, who built the track. It will always be the original crown jewel of racing!”

Besides her role serving as Miss Sprint Cup in 2010-11, Duke is the national spokesperson for Kruger Farms, an online outdoor outfitter in Minnesota, and was cast in the CMT hit show Sweet Home Alabama for two seasons in 2011 and 2012. She is also a model for various national campaigns and works as a veterinary technician in Lancaster.

The “Lady in Black” slogan was first used in the mid-1960’s when reporters covering the race from the press box referred to it as such, stemming from the black asphalt, which was considered “the dress” of a track known for being treacherously difficult to drive.

The fierce competition and the toughness that the track brings to the sport has made the Lady in Black what it is today, the track Too Tough to Tame.

“Paige Duke is the perfect fit to serve as our Lady in Black,” Darlington Raceway President Chris Browning said. “She is a local South Carolinian who is bringing the Lady in Black to life. Darlington Raceway is special in the sport of NASCAR racing and she is the best person to fulfill this unique role for us.”
