Champion's Week Schedule

Info From: Nascar.com

Coverage of the awards takes place Friday from 9 p.m. to midnight ET on FOX Sports 2 and NASCAR.com. Radio coverage on MRN affiliates and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET.

Plenty of build-up and insider-style access -- with many events free to the public -- is scheduled before the black-tie and evening gown gala:

Tuesday -- "NASCAR Live" with Eli Gold will host Johnson in an hourlong, audience-participation radio show from 7-8 p.m. ET (4-5 p.m. PT) at the Wynn Sports Book. The Motorsports Marketing Forum presented by SportsBusiness Daily/Global/Journal also kicks off for the first of two days, providing a comprehensive look at the business of the NASCAR industry.

Wednesday -- The red carpet will be out for all 13 Chase drivers in the Fanfest presented by Las Vegas Motor Speedway, a free event also in its fifth year. Beginning at 4:30 p.m. ET (1:30 p.m. PT) at the Fremont Street Experience, the drivers will engage in a game-show style face-off with a prize of two tickets to the Friday night awards banquet available for fans. The day will also include a reception for this year's four finalists for the Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award at the Wynn from 7:30-8:30 p.m. ET (4:30-5:30 p.m. PT). Fan voting continues for the honor until 11:59 p.m. ET Thursday.

Thursday -- One of the busiest days of the week in Vegas begins with the annual NASCAR NMPA Myers Brothers Awards Luncheon (2 p.m.-5:30 p.m. ET, video live streamed at NASCAR.com) in the Encore Ballroom at the Wynn. The awards ceremonies are followed by NASCAR Victory Lap at 6:30 p.m. ET (3:30 p.m. PT), when the top 10 Chase drivers will offer a taste of the race-day experience with burnouts and a rumbling drive down Las Vegas Boulevard. NASCAR After the Lap presented by Ford and Coca-Cola concludes the day at the Palms Hotel & Casino Hotel with an offbeat, unfiltered roundtable involving every Chase driver. Fans can watch NASCAR Victory Lap and NASCAR After the Lap live on NASCAR.com.

Friday -- Johnson and the rest of the top 10 drivers in the final NASCAR Sprint Cup Series standings will be honored, marking the official close of the 2013 season. Drivers, celebrities and other special guests will all walk the redcarpet before the celebration begins.

2014 Cup Schedule due out soon UPDATE

From: Jayski  More info on their page bout this update.

The 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup schedule likely will be out by the end of September, NASCAR s Kerry Tharp confirmed Friday at Richmond International Raceway. Tharp said there may be some minor tweaks to the 2014 schedule, but he did not expect a radical overhaul of track dates (FoxSports)(9-7-2013)
UPDATE:The 2014 Sprint Cup schedule is being debated behind closed doors, and some quite interesting twists appear on the table at the moment. Just a few weeks ago it looked like NASCAR didn't plan any major, or even minor, changes for 2014. Now, however, word is things have, for some reason, changed. What NASCAR eventually does with next year's Cup calendar seems up for review, with few sacred cows. Don't make any hotel reservations, but here are some possible moves:

  • Homestead might lose its spot as the season finale;
  • Phoenix might gain the final spot on the 2014 tour;
  • Sonoma could earn a spot in the playoffs, adding a California stop to the chase;
  • Road America, that picturesque road course at Elkhart Lake, Wis., an hour north of Milwaukee, could get a slot in the 2014 Cup schedule (even though NASCAR's Brian France earlier this year said he planned no new tracks on the tour next season);
  • how to fit a new track in the schedule? Dover could lose its late spring Cup weekend (keeping its early fall Cup date, in the chase), track boss Denis McGlynn, not unaccustomed to such speculation, would surely fight hard to keep both;
  • and -- hold your horses -- Darlington might even get its traditional Labor Day weekend Southern 500 back;
  • to fill that Mother's Day Saturday night slot, maybe a swap with Atlanta;
  • Of course after all this debate NASCAR might simply decide not to make any changes for 2014.(MikeMulhern.net)(9-17-2013)

Ty Dillon wins the truck at Kentucky

Ty Dillon takes the lead away from Kyle Busch with just 26 laps remaining and went on to win the NASCAR Truck Series race Thursday night at Kentucky Speedway.

Dillon started in the 22nd spot and drove that famous No. 3 car in Victory Lane, Dillon's Grand-pop was so proud of him to see him win his 2nd career Camping World Trucks Series win.

Dillon crossed the finish line 5.736 seconds ahead of  Brad Keselowski to win Thursday night's UNOH 225 at Kentucky Speedway. Busch ran third, followed by reigning series champion James Buescher and Ryan Blaney.

''To beat Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski, two of the best on four wheels right now, was really special.''

After crossing the finish line, Dillon desided to burnout on the frontstrech while half of his body was hanging outside the driver's-side window, but it was patience on the race track that gave him cause to celebrate.

Ty Dillon added yet another Kentucky trophy for Richard Childress Racing. His brother, Austin Dillon, swepted both Nationwide Series races last year at the track.

''This place has always seemed to be a fit for me and Austin some reason,'' Dillon said.

"My car just took off at the end," Dillon said. "I knew I was faster, so I just really tried not to kill my car, kill my tires, and it finally came to us. I got a good run through (Turns) 1 and 2 and got by him in 3 and 4. It (Dillon's No. 3 Chevrolet) turned into a rocket ship there at the end.

"I wasn't that great in the beginning and the middle, but (crew chief) Marcus (Richmond) and the guys kept digging and kept digging."

About the spectacular burnout, Dillon said simply, "Hey, man, we're here to put on a show."

Rookie Darrell Wallace Jr. spun in Turn 3 on Lap 86, racing in close quarters underneath the No. 29 of Blaney, to cause the fifth caution on Lap 86. Wallace had led a race-high 54 laps to that point but had to take his No. 54 Toyota to the garage for repairs.

Dillon, a top-five competitor despite his starting spot, kept charging forward before eventually passing Busch on lap 125 and going to his first win of the season. He moved up three spots to third in the standings, 40 behind leader Matt Crafton (10th) and 22 behind Burton (ninth).

DO THE MATH: SPRINT ALL-STAR RACE GETS NEW WRINKLE

From: NASCAR.com

NASCAR's invitational will use law of averages for all-out finale

Reinforcing the need for speed and going all out for the win, NASCAR announced on Tuesday the format for the 2013 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race that will put added emphasis on finishing well in each of the five segments. The sport’s annual classic is set for Saturday, May 18 at 7:30 p.m. ET (live on SPEED) at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The new wrinkle that should have the fans and the competitors excited: the running order at the completion of the fourth segment (Lap 80) will be repositioned based on the average finish for the first four segments directly behind the caution car prior to the opening of pit road for the mandatory four-tire pit stop. The order of the cars returning to the track will determine the starting order of the fifth segment. Running order ties will be broken by the finish of the fourth segment. This revision puts a premium on making all of the laps count leading up to the final 10-lap shootout with the race winner earning a $1 million payday from Sprint.

“Having the average finish through the race’s first four segments determine how the cars come down pit road for the last mandatory four-tire pit stop takes the competition to an even higher level,” said Robin Pemberton, NASCAR Vice President of Competition. “The NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race is truly a showcase event for our sport and this format should bring out the best in our drivers and our teams.”

The race will continue to be run in four, 20-lap segments and one 10-lap final segment. All laps will count in segments one through four. In the fifth and final segment, only green flag laps will be counted. There will be optional pit stops during the break following each of the first three segments, with the field set by the pit stop/stay out positioning during the five caution laps.

“The NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race is the highlight of our season,” said Tim Considine, director of sponsorship marketing for Sprint. “These added elements help continue the tradition of this being one of the most unique and compelling races on the NASCAR Sprint Cup calendar.”

The eligibility criteria for the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race remain the same:

  • Drivers who have won NASCAR Sprint Cup races in the current and preceding year. If a driver leaves a team with which he has won a race, he or she remains eligible (through the last race before the all-star race), however, the team does not
  • Drivers who are past NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race winners in the past 10 years
  • Drivers who are past NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champions in the last 10 years
  • The top two finishers in the Sprint Showdown, the 40-lap race that precedes the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race
  • The top Sprint Fan Vote driver who finishes on the lead lap of the Showdown and whose car is in “raceable” condition as determined by the series director.
  • The 2013 Sprint Fan Vote runs from March 20-May 18. Fans may vote by using the NASCAR Mobile ’13 application or online at NASCAR.COM. Votes cast from the NASCAR Mobile ’13 application count double.

This will be the 29th running of the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race. Five-time series champion and reigning Daytona 500 champion Jimmie Johnson won last year’s race.
NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race weekend ticket packages including all Friday and Saturday activities start at just $99 including scanner rental. Fans should call 1-800-455-FANS or visit CharlotteMotorSpeedway.com for details.
